PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – The bus lane on Fifth Avenue is currently being “retired”. This retirement went into effect at the beginning of January, impacting the routes of nine buses.

The effected stops have been moved to Forbes Avenue, in which the buses will follow the flow of traffic. These stops will become permanent as a part of this reconstruction project. However, the inbound buses will continue to run on Fifth Avenue.

The project is expected to be completed in 2027, with the buses having dedicated lanes, both inbound and outbound, along with a protected, bi-directional bus lane in place of the old Fifth Avenue bus lane.

There are other accessibility changes coming to Oakland, including updated sidewalks and curbs, pedestrian safety systems, ramps, and traffic signals. The reconstruction is meant to bring better and safer transportation methods for all in Oakland.
