PITTSBURGH, Pa. [PTTP] — Universities in America are starting to ban the popular app TikTok. This comes from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) asking states to ban the app on state-sanctioned devices because of data stealing.
The University of Texas at Austin was one of the first to institute the ban by blocking the app on school Wi-Fi. Other schools including the University of Oklahoma and Boise State University have followed suit. Texas Governor, Greg, Abbott, has been the main influencer for the banning trend, as he and his cabinet have sided with the FCC regarding this issue.
The popular app among tweens, teens, college students, and millennials is owned by Chinese company, ByteDance. Politicians from both main parties have called for a nationwide ban, while at the same time, the TikTok representative for the Americas tries to reason with Senate regarding the situation.
