UPMC Nurse Arrested After Spending Money Using Deceased Patient’s Debit Card

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa (PTTP) – On Feb.29th, a theft was reported to the Lower Allen Township Police. Following that same report, a warrant was later issued for Mojgan Amiri-Parian, a nurse at the UPMC West Shore Hospital. As of now, the suspect was reportedly arrested in March.20th with the noted charges being that of receiving stolen property and access device fraud.

The nurse allegedly spent exactly $1206.29, using a deceased person’s debit card. Out of the $1206, $1,000 was reportedly used up at the Capital City Mall’s Pandora store; along with more than $200 at Target. Furthermore, the remaining $54 were spent at Chipotle and Sheetz altogether.

The deceased patient  was reportedly sent to the UPMC West on Monday Jan. 22nd, 2024, and later passed away on Thursday Jan. 25th, 2024. The patient’s brother called the police after noticing those specific purchases being charged to his sister’s PNC Bank account; all of which was recorded within that same particular time window of the hospital stay.

The police were able to gather video surveillance footage at the Capital City Mall and Sheetz, accompanied by a physical description of  the suspect: female, pale skin, white knitted hat, and  mask. Upon investigating, it was learned  that the suspected nurse was involved with transitioning patients from the emergency and waiting rooms, to a room in the ICU.

Pitt to The Point asked UPMC for an official statement regarding the case. However, Pitt to The Point  has not heard back from UPMC at the moment.
