PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – PITTSBURGH (AP) — At the University of Pittsburgh, students
looking for a creative and welcoming space need look no further than WPTS Radio. The student run, non-commercial FM station, located on the fourth floor of the William Pitt Union, has been
an integral part of campus life since its founding in 1980.

WPTS Radio has grown into one of the leading college radio stations in the country, serving as
an important outlet in the Pittsburgh market for alternative music. But for students involved, it’s
more than just a station — it’s a community.

“I really like working here at WPTS Radio because the environment is super,” said Michaela
Albers, the station’s news director. “It’s a great place to chill and meet new people and talk about
music. There are so many different people with different tastes, and so many different
opportunities as well.”

The station boasts multiple studio setups, offering students hands-on experience in broadcasting
and production. The flexibility of involvement makes it appealing to students with varying
schedules and interests.

“I definitely recommend this place for a lot of people who are even just looking for a place to
study or hang out,” Albers said. “The nice thing about working here is that there are different
levels of commitment—you can commit as much time as you feel necessary.”

Beyond music and news production, WPTS Radio serves as a hub for students seeking a
welcoming space.

“I like working here because all the people are so nice and kind, and it’s great to be in a creative,
wonderful, amazing work environment,” Abby Fowler said.

For students interested in media, music, or just looking for a fun place to connect, WPTS Radio
remains a standout choice at Pitt.
