Pittsburgh (PTTP)- On January 22, David C. Frederick Honors college at the University of Pittsburgh celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Allen L. Cook Spring Creek Preserve gift that was remodeled space in Posvar Hall. Allen L. Cook is a Wyoming rancher and conservationist who has gifted the university this amazing space. It is the only honors college in the nation with its own dedicated off-site preserve. Jo Howell, a history major said, “the preserve changed my life for the better, and I can only imagine how many other people were impacted in a similar manner and how many more will follow in my footsteps.”
When you think of an athlete getting ready for a game, you usually think about their preparation physically and mentally to help them be their best. What you don’t think about is the way that athletes prepare on how they look and getting their outfits, hair or makeup ready for the game. Black athletes have been forced to excel in their sport without being “too black.” You can’t wear this, you can’t look like that while you compete. Micheal Jordan was a huge piece in combining athletic wear and street wear, after signing with Nike in the 90s. Nowadays you see the big time athletes posting their “game day outfits” walking into their locker room before the game. Times have changed and so have expectations for black athletes, thanks to the legends who have helped change those standards.
