PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – YinzerCon, an all-new convention dedicated to celebrating everything Western Pennsylvania, will be kicking off on Saturday, April 15. The name of the convention lends itself to the iconic Pittsburgh term “Yinz,” the Pittsburghese version of “Y’all.” Pittsburgh is home to loyal and passionate citizens, these self-proclaimed yinzers, whose pride for their hometown is unwavering and shown in many different ways.
“Everyone is so passionate about the things that make Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh. My family is obsessed with the Steelers. We have taken our Christmas card pictures, with all seven of our cousins, for the past 20 years. The food is obviously a great aspect. So many different cultures intertwined,” stated Giovanna Niccola, Pitt student, and proud Yinzer.
At YinzerCon, common iconic aspects of Pittsburgh culture will be present and vary from public figures, to food such as pierogies, to sports, to steel bridges. YinzerCon is an event created to bring together all kinds of Pittsburgh enthusiasts and some of Western Pennsylvania’s most well-known brands and celebrities. The convention has already gained substantial attention, with thousands of people interested in attending.
“It’s gonna be like one big gathering because Pittsburgh is kinda like one big extended family with crazy aunts and crazy uncles,” stated Don Spagnolo, creator of YinzerCon.
Some special guests who are confirmed to be attending YinzerCon this year include Pittsburgh sports icons such as Dorin Dickerson and John Banaszak, as well as Blake Hinson (Pitt Basketball leading scorer and rebounder), Joe Wos (host of Cartoon Academy) and KDKA’s meteorologist, Mary Ours.
“This is more personal. I do what I do for everyone else. For me to be able to go to something like this, and have people come up to me. I just love meeting everyone and it really is a fun thing to do,” stated Mary Ours.
Admittance to YinzerCon is limited this year and will only be available by purchasing a ticket. Tickets come in three different package options with each including access to the location, autograph signings, and shopping credit to the Re-Mixxd retail store. Tickets can be found online at Steel City Galleries’ website at www.steelcitygalleries.com.
