PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) — On Sunday, Volodymyr Zeleskyy, the president of Ukraine, said
that he would give up his position as president if that meant Ukraine would have peace under the
NATO military alliance. He is ready to take this step if this is how they would get peace. He says
he would trade his position for NATO. President Trump and President Putin gave a suggestion
that there should be elections held in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy had reported that overnight on Saturday, Russia had launched 267 strike drones into
Ukraine. There have been 138 of the drones shot down and 119 that are lost. One person has died
as there have been three ballistic missiles fired. This was in reaction to Trump making quick
changes in U.S. foreign policy. Ukraine feared that Trump would join with Moscow and make a
settlement for war without including Ukraine and its European backers. With Trump’s recent
engagements, it has made a dramatic about-face in U.S. policy. Zelenskyy has expressed his fears
of lost territory and vulnerability to a future of aggression from Russia, however officials from
the U.S. ensured his involvement when peace talks actually begin.

After Trump suggested that Kyiv started the war and Zelenskyy was acting like a dictator, anger
came about in Ukraine. Russia’s deputy foreign minister had said there were to be preparations
for a meeting with Trump and Putin. After these past attacks, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, talks about that no matter if there is no one calling Russia an aggressor, it
does not mean that they aren’t one. He also stated that people should look at Putin’s actions
rather than trusting his words.

On Sunday, there was a deal discussed about Ukraine’s rare earth minerals that allows the U.S. to
access them, however Zelenskyy was not on board with this plan. Ukraine was considering the
possibility of investment opportunities with the U.S. and European countries which would
include the minerals. Ukraine holds these minerals to a high value and wants them protected.
These minerals on Ukraine territories are said to be worth about $350 billion.

Putin praised the Russian soldiers in a televised message which was used to gain more support
for the military and also get new weapons and equipment for these forces. He put high values on
straightening the military and says that Russia will continue to do that.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are making visits
to Washington in hopes to get Trump to not abandon Ukraine in the peace deal. Starmer had said
that there is not allowed any talk about Ukraine without Ukraine and the people of Ukraine but
have security for the long term.
