PITTSBURGH (PA) – President Trump extended the U.S.-Iran ceasefire on Tuesday, claiming that he was giving Iranian leaders more time to agree.
Much of the current conflict centers on the status of the Strait of Hormuz, a key searoute for a large portion of the world’s oil. The price of oil has surged significantly in the wake of this conflict, reaching over $100 per barrel at its peak.
Despite the ceasefire, tensions on both sides remain high. President Trump told the U.S. military to fire on any Iranian boats mining the Strait. The clearing of mines would significantly increase the time before ships are safe to transport goods through the strait, making it a prudent topic among politicians.
