PITTSBURGH, Pa (PTTP) — During enrollment season, not only are students worried about getting their classes scheduled, but advisors have to help their students pick out their classes. Managing each student’s classes, credits left, and career goals can be challenging, yet each advisor has their own way of balancing it all.
College of General Studies advisor Krista Stokes uses handwritten notes to plan what her students have taken and to make recommendations for classes they can take.
Krista says one of the most unique things about being a CGS advisor is that she gets to work with students throughout their college careers, whether that’s one year or all four. She even shared a time when she worked with a student who was going back to school, taking one class at a time. Graduating took 10 years, but she was able to connect with her students, like all of her students, and not only learn about their lives and families but also watch them grow over the years.
Krista says that moments like these are among her favorite parts of being an advisor, and she loved the opportunity to share more about academic advising with us than we can see.
