Blake Hinson Surpasses 1,000 Points and puts Pitt in a Strong Position for the NCAA Tournament

PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) – Blake Hinson has surpassed a career milestone, making his past two seasons playing for the Pittsburgh Panthers Men’s Basketball team more productive than ever.

On February 18, Pitt crushed the Louisville Cardinals 86-59, with 41 points coming from Hinson, and with a driving layup scored towards the middle of the first half of the game, Hinson surpassed 1,000 points, establishing him a new member of the Pitt 1,000 point club.

Throughout his career playing for both Ole Miss and Pitt, Hinson has now scored a total of 1,550 points. Hinson entered the game against Lousiville having scored 988 points in 60 games, and after defeating Louisville, Hinson is now the fourth-fastest Panther to ever reach 1,000.

Last season, Hinson led the Panthers in scoring as well as rebounding. Not only has Hinson scored 41 points in a single game, most of the points came from beyond the 3-point line, scoring 9 3-pointers against Louisville. Before the Louisville game, Hinson made 179 3-pointers in his career, and is now the ACC’s leading 3-point shooter and fifth-leading scorer.

Because of Hinson’s masterful 3-point shooting, Pitt is now in a strong position, as they are striving for a second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance – the first time since the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, Pitt’s last in the Big East and first in the ACC.

After scoring 68 points in two games, Hinson has earned Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week recognition from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. Hinson is more motivated than ever to lead the Panthers to success, with a hopeful appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Hinson’s drive and energy is clearly reflecting well onto his teammates, as the Panthers have now won 7 of their last 9 games. The Panthers look to play Virginia Tech this Saturday, February 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.
