This Pitt Alumn Sees a Bright Future for the University

PITTSBURGH (PTTP) – Dexter Henry is a Pitt alumnus who is the physical representation of Hailing to Pitt. A graduate of the class of 2005, Henry now works as a sports journalist and play-by-play announcer in Brooklyn, but while he may be a state away from his alma mater, he still loves his home in the Steel City, and is on a mission to help the next generation.

When Henry was a student at Pitt, his options for sports writing and sportscasting were extremely limited. While he did have connections through WPTS Radio and UPTV, his studio spaces weren’t much to write home about. Henry said he even used to record his own basketball talk show in the ground floor of the then brand new Peterson Events Center, which was a sort of mini-hall of fame showcasing acolytes for Pitt athletics. Now, that hall is home to the state of the art Pitt Studios. Henry described this massive evolution at the University as incredible, also stating that he was slightly jealous. He said he was excited for the possibilities of what the next generation of communications students have to offer as the Pitt communications department only continues to grow. Henry believes that in a city so widely surrounded in sports like Pittsburgh, it is the perfect place for students who wish to join the sports media landscape to thrive, and is excited to see what opportunities the students here at the University will be able to create.
