Pitt Greensburg Takes Action to Promote Food and Clothing Security for its Students

GREENSBURG, PA (PTTP)- Pitt Greensburg has taken much initiative to make sure that its students have food to eat, including fresh produce and non-perishable, canned goods. It has two main programs: Mobile Food Markets and Little Food Pantries.

The Mobile Food Market comes to campus monthly and provides free, fresh produce, such as fruits and vegetables, to its students to take as much as they need. The Market is transported mobile, in a van or truck, and parks right on campus for easy accessibility for students.

The Little Food Pantries are pantries that have canned goods and non-perishable food items across campus. The students and faculty work to fill these pantries on a volunteer basis, so that all students have food accessible to them.

Both programs are available for every student, and are completely anonymous, so that students can take food as they need, worry free.

Additionally, the campus has two main clothing programs- The Professional Clothing Closet and a winter coat drive. The closet provides business wear for students who need an outfit for an interview or professional needs. It runs on a borrow system, and the students can take clothing as they need.

The winter coat drive is faculty run. Faculty donate coats for the students to use for free if they don’t have access to winter clothing for the cold weather. All the coats fit a variety of sizes, so that all students can grab a coat if needed.
