PITTSBURGH (PA) – As the vibrant hues of spring begin to fade, Phipps Conservatory prepares to bid farewell to its annual spring flower show, “A Closer Look.” With kaleidoscopes and magnifying glasses strategically placed throughout the conservatory, the exhibit has invited visitors to explore the intricate beauty of nature up close.

Since its opening, the spring show has captivated audiences with its dazzling displays of tulips, narcissus, and hyacinths, showcasing the rich tapestry of colors and textures found in the natural world. From the mesmerizing rotating kaleidoscopes to the whimsical topiary deer and foxes, each element of the exhibit has encouraged guests to immerse themselves in the wonder of springtime blooms. Adam Hass, the Interpretive Programs Manager of Phipps Conservatory, says their work is “an artful science,” orchestrating the growth and displays.

As the spring show draws to a close, anticipation builds for Phipps Conservatory’s biggest event of the year: the summer flower show. Beginning on May 4th, the summer showcase will transport visitors to an underwater paradise with its theme, “Under the Sea.”

As the summer show approaches, the team at Phipps Conservatory is preparing more plant life for their theme: Under the Sea. Through the art of topiary, they’ll bring to life jellyfish, seahorses, an octopus, and other sea creatures, transforming the conservatory into a beautiful underwater world.

While plants may be ubiquitous, Phipps Conservatory aims to celebrate and highlight the diversity that exists within the botanical realm. Preparing for the summer show requires a delicate balance of art and science, as the team employs innovative techniques to coax thousands of bulbs into simultaneous bloom.

As the curtain falls on the spring flower show, Phipps Conservatory eagerly awaits the arrival of summer, when it will once again enchant visitors with its dazzling displays and immersive experiences. For those eager to dive into the wonders of the natural world, the summer flower show promises to be an unforgettable journey beneath the waves.
