Pitt Celebrates Women’s History Month

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (PTTP) — March is Women’s History Month, with International Women’s Day being celebrated on Friday, March 8th. In honor of this, Pitt is hosting many events throughout campus.

The Women in the Window’s Tour in the Heinz Memorial Chapel has slots available for visitors throughout the whole month. It is a tour highlighting women depicted in the 73-foot stained glass transparent windows. This year’s theme is “Women Who Advocate for Fairness and Inclusion.”

When the chapel was originally built in the 1930s, the team’s goal was to have an equal number of women shown in the windows as men. Chapel director Karen Sebolt will be leading the tour, showcasing historically influential women such as Elizabeth Fry, Joan of Arc, and Florence Nightingale. Tours are free to students with their Pitt ID.

Other events hosted by Pitt throughout the month include the screening of the film “Rise of Wahine: Champions of Title IX.” This will be on March 23 on Pitt-Bradford’s campus. Another screening will be here in Oakland on March 29. This will be of the silent film, “The Woman of Tomorrow,” Russia’s first feminist film, with live music.
