Pitt Football Gains a New Quarterback

PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) – The Pitt Panthers Football team has seen a plethora of quarterbacks over the years – from Pickett, Slovis, and now, new quarterback, Eli Holstein.

Since Holstein was rated as one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2023, Holstein serving as Pitt’s new quarterback is a win, and with four seasons to grow under new offensive coordinator Kade Bell, Pitt is hopeful in gaining more wins than last season. Holstein flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to Alabama during his recruiting process, but didn’t play in a single game for the Crimson Tides.

During his lone season in Tuscaloosa, Holstein served as a scout team quarterback, as well as holding outstanding statistics during his high school years.

This past Wednesday, February 14 at the 2024 Newcomer Press Conference, Holstein, along with other players and coaches spoke about their past experiences with football and what they are planning to achieve during the football season.

Jacob Bronowski, Pitt’s Tight Ends/Special Teams Coach, talks about the coach-player relationship and how it impacts gameplay and morale at the conference. “We’re all adapting together on the fly. It’s tremendously beneficial for us…it’s important to show some vulnerability as a coach…we’re going to constantly get better day by day.

While Pitt is excited for a fresh start with new players, Holstein is still a work in progress, and his quarterback competition with Nate Yarnell and Christian Veilleux will be the true story of the offseason.

Holstein has a huge amount of potential for the Pitt coaching staff, his team, and for the ultimate culture of college football. While Holstein may not earn the starting spot for Pitt’s season opener against Kent State next fall, it is clear that Holstein will use his skills from Alabama to great use, and to inspire the rest of Pitt Football for success.
