Pitt space initiative joins Keystone space collaborative to do out of this world research

The University of Pittsburgh has invested lots of time and money into space research, and it isn’t stopping here. With a sponsorship of $20,000, Pitt is partnering with the Keystone space collaborative. This is non profit organization made up of 45 researchers from Pitt that supports neighboring states space industries like Ohio and West Virginia.

The space initiative that Pitt recently launched has focuses on space science, space engineering and space medicine, and biomanufacturing. Collaborating with Keystone can help make the initiatives even stronger.

The initiative led by Robert Cunningham; vice chancellor for research infrastructure, aims to become one of the top industries with cutting edge technology and research for space. Pitt already runs a very large center for universities to collaborate with industries like this, The Center for Space, High Performance and Resilient Computing currently is the leader of the field for space architecture.

Cunningham hopes to expand the industry overtime, sending students to NASA, and have some stay in Pittsburgh to help build a space ecosystem around the University.
