The University of Pittsburgh Bridges the Gap Between Senior Citizens and Students Through Club Aldercare

PITTSBURGH, PA (PTTP) — The University of Pittsburgh’s club, Aldercare, is bridging the gap between senior citizens and students, one activity at a time. Aldercare is a club where students work with the senior citizens at Schenley Gardens on activities such as bingo, cookie decorating, arts and crafts, and many more.

President Kathrine Wilbraham has stated that she hopes more people will join the club to help break the stigma that senior citizens are mean and grumpy, when college students and senior citizens are more alike than we realize. Wilbraham, who is a senior this year, plans to apply to PA School where she will take what she has learned from the club and work with geriatric medicine.

The club is a nonprofit student organization, where their mission is to promote, support, and advance the health and welfare of senior citizens through service to senior nursing homes and senior living facilities.

The club is always looking for more members to join and has their last event of the semester on Saturday, April 20, from 1:30-3:00 where they will be decorating cookies.
